Demand for ecological food

When Alternativ Mat was launched in the mid-1980s, they had two products. Nowadays the company is a market leader in the field of “convenience goods of the future” and has 700 products on its shelves.

The range of goods on offer includes ecological foods, all kinds of milk substitute products, gluten-free goods, lifestyle foods and foods and sweets with no artificial additives.

More interested in what we’re eating
Alternativ Mat AS had a growth of 20% in 2005 and a turnover of NOK 65 million. They grew in all their markets, while at the same time also entering new markets. The company took on a further ten members of staff, implemented a management training programme and, for the first time, developed its own packaging and products.

Brand famous for healthy, safe, decent food
“We’ve developed our own design for flour bags, Norwegian soft drinks and spelt crispbread.  We’re going to build on ‘Alternativ Mat’ [Alternative Food] and make it into a brand name synonymous with healthy, safe and fair food,” says General Manager Thomas Dyrnes.

Validus increased its holding in Alternativ Mat as to 100% in 2008
In February 2005, Validus took over 34% of shares in Alternativ Mat AS. In 2007, the company’s ownership interest increased to 60%. In 2008 Validus increased its holding in Alternativ Mat as to 100%.
